To end the month on a sweet note, we figured it was fitting to feature Lola, the feline friend of Graphic & Web Designer, Megan. With a name like Lola one would have to expect a danty, sassy little thing. Well, Lola certainly doesn’t disappointment. She is a petite, white-pinkish hairless wonder. This spunky diva spends most of her days sleeping and trying to sneak eat her dog-brother’s food and spends her evenings playing, running around the house and chasing Jose in a hyper frenzy.

That isn’t to say Lola doesn’t have her sweet moments, says Megan. “Spending the first year of her life being neglicted, she was very standoffish and you could barely pick her up or hold her without her freaking out. But after rescueing her 5 years ago, we have really seen her grow and change with nurturing. With a lot snuggle time and patience, Lola has become super affectionate and loveable!”

Lola’s favorite hangout is the linen closet. “Anytime I barely leave it open, she manages to jump in there, curl up really small and fall into a deep sleep. So much so, that I have searched the neighborhood looking for her thinking she got out and all the while, she is snuggle up in the closet,” says Megan.

Oh, Vinny! With his colorful coat and curly tail, this little guy is easily one of the cutest SJ EmPAWees in San Diego! Despite Vinny’s penchant for lying on clean clothes and begging for food, this playful pup, the proud canine companion of Graphic & Web Designer, Megan, is notorious for being a total sweetheart — just ask his brother and sister, Jose and Lola!

Vinny was adopted from a shelter at the ripe age of 6 months. Megan’s husband, Craig went to the shelter, took one look at him, asked to picked him up and Vinny did his siganture move… he plunged his head right into Craig’s chest and nuzzled away. That was all it took. Craig adopted him on the spot. Kind of a risky move, but we couldn’t imagine life with out him. “I was lucky have Vinny as part of our family because of my husband. I often joke that Vinny was the main selling point for me marrying him!”

Vinny loves drinking coffee (like his mommy), playing with his squeeky toy giraffe, sleeping, and snuggling under bed covers. If you need any more reason to seriously fall for this handsome guy, here’s an all-too adorable fact: When you say, “Oh, Vinny you’re soooo shy!” He lies down and covers his face with his paws!

With his exotic name and alien, old man like appearance, Jose never fails to make an impression. Sometimes weary guests often become over taken with joy after spending 5 minutes with this playful Sphynx. The feline friend of Graphic & Web Designer, Megan, was rescued from a breeder in New Mexico at the tender age of 6 months.

Even though this little guy lives the high life of sleeping, eating and playing all day, he has had his share of health problems. Emergency trips and overnight stays in the hospital, IV’s, cathiders, surgery… this little guy has seen it all. But fear not, Jose is a fighter! If he could pick up a pen, I bet he could write a best seller about how to NOT take his medicine.

Despite Jose’s hairless, wrinkly looks, he actually acts a lot like a playful dog. “He come when he’s called, snuggles with this dog-brother, Vinny, and when I say “up” he jumps into my arms,” says Megan. Other lovable quirks include an affinity for paper Whole Foods bags, bogarding all high sitting and sleeping areas, and snoring loudly while sleeping on his back with his legs in the air. Oh, Jose!

If you’re lucky enough to meet Jose in person, lean in close. “If you get close enough to him, he’ll bop his nose on yours for a kitty kiss!”

Missy is a 3-year-old Maine Coon mix.  She’s super friendly and loves to cuddle in bed at night.  She’s probably about 2 feet long from head to rump and her tail is just like a long puffy squirrel tail and all in all, she’s about the size of a small dog!

Her favorite thing to do is play hide and seek with Brandy, our shepard mix dog!  She also loves strings, laser pointers, tissues, and to watch the hummingbirds in the backyard.  She makes the funniest noise when she jumps off something high…she sounds like a squeaky toy when she lands!!

1. Learn about Earth Day and participate in events in your neighborhood: http://www.earthday.org/
2. Go on a Picnic! We just love this idea of Picnic for the Planet. Picnic with some of your neighbors, or have a picnic on your own! This is a great way to get outside and enjoy nature. Learn how to Eat Green and Eat Sustainably while you are at it! Food Network also shares some tips for Green Eating.
3. Earth Day Crafts – Teach your kids about recycling by creating these fun and simple crafts! Kaboose has some really fun ideas, including cute Animal Jars, a Paper Mache Globe, a Soda Bottle Terrarium and tons more! Check it out!
4. Give a Tree – There are many organizations where you can donate or give a tree as a gift. With Tree People your donation will help bring the Angeles National Forest back to life. Heifer International, trees are donated to a family who is then trained to keep their plots of land healthy and renew the soil for future generations.
5. Recycle your Clothes and Toys by taking them to Goodwill or your nearest donation center (we always donate to Community Resource Center). Recycling isn’t just for paper and plastic, it’s so important to recycle whatever you can!
