Good Morning Everyone

I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday and that you are all looking  forward to the New Year!  For us in Southern California, the rain let up for a few days around Christmas and now the rain is back!  With all the rain we’ve been having it’s made me think of ways to pass the time during the not so nice weather.

For little ones who are feeling antsy, anything around the house can become adventure.  For example give your kids a bunch of blankets and towels and then have them make their bedroom into a fort.  It is something fun for kids of all ages, because they will enjoy building it and then they can have fun playing in it!  With everyone on holiday break, they could even sleep in it if they dared! Plus, the mess is contained to one room, making it easier to clean up when they are done.

For little girls who are starting to feel a bit whiny have them put on their fanciest of clothes and have a party! Dress up is always fun and if they are old enough, you can put a bit of makeup on them and let them be Fancy!  They can have a tea party or play a game all dressed up!  It is a sure way to get them to play until dinner time.

For boys who are feeling grumpy because they can’t go out and run around, create a treasure hunt.  Have them go into a room where they cannot see anything and then go around the house placing items you already have in secret locations. Then create the map for the boys to follow around the house and at the end of the treasure hunt, perhaps a special snack will be waiting for them.  It may seem like a lot of work for you, but it will definitely give you time to breathe while they are hunting for treasure.

For those that are just trying to enjoy time to themselves, you could take the rainy day to clean up the house and get things done, or you could treat yourself to a day of pampering.  Paint your fingers and toes,  take a relaxing bath and add bath salts to keep your skin feeling smooth then watch your favorite show curled up on the couch or lounger.   Do something that helps relax you and will have you ready for when the rest of your family returns that evening.  If you want to splurge for when the family comes home, go and rent some movies, pick up your favorite take-out and have a sit-down dinner in the living room while watching the movies you rented.

Those are just some things that you can do on a rainy day (or snowy day for that matter).  What do you like to do when the weather outside is just plain icky?
